On August 8, 2024, What We Find on the Road made its Cape Cod debut at the Historic Cape Cinema in Dennis, MA—a venue as rich in history as the stories we tell on screen. The nearly full house was a testament to the wonderful support from the local community.
Nestled in the heart of Cape Cod, the Cape Cinema, with its stunning Rockwell Kent mural overhead, provided a beautiful and fitting backdrop for this event. The film, a heartfelt exploration of the bonds we form on the road, was particularly resonant in this setting, given that Cape Cod itself was where our journey first began.
Following the screening, the audience was treated to a Q&A session with the minds and talents behind the film. Bill Haney, the writer of the script, shared his inspirations and the creative process behind bringing this story to life. Finn Haney, who delivered a powerful performance as TJ, spoke about his journey with the character and his literal journey on multiple cross-country trips while scouting and filming. Paul Guilfoyle, who played Billy the mechanic and a father figure to TJ, discussed the nuances of his character and the real-life inspiration behind it.
Adding a local flavor to the evening, we were joined by Billy Amaral of Amaral Automotive, who not only appeared as an extra in the film but was also the inspiration for Paul Guilfoyle's character. Eric Maki, another local who played the "Big Guy" who delivers the key and address to TJ at the beginning of the film, was also in attendance making his big screen debut.
As a road trip film that began on Cape Cod, sharing this advance screening with the local community was a full-circle moment for us. The warmth and enthusiasm of the audience was really special, and we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to premiere it here before it hits theaters next month.
What We Find on the Road will be available in select theaters September 20 and on your favorite streaming platform on November 12. Follow us on Instagram for the most up-to-date screening information.
