FLINT, Mich. — A fictional play inspired by the Flint water crisis is coming to the stage in Detroit, and Flint residents are being invited to a special performance.

A special performance of "The Poisoner" will take place on Friday night, including free transportation, tickets, a post-show discussion and food.

The play premiered in New York in 2024, and organizers say audiences in Michigan can now experience it on stage.

Flint water activist Melissa Mays is scheduled to take part in the talkback Friday night.

“I think it's important that everybody see this and realize the, you know, it is real. People have lived through this and that, you know, in Flint, we've changed history and raised up how important it is that our water be treated properly and not like, you know, a commodity to be bought and sold at the cheapest price, that kind of thing, but also the importance of public health,” Mays said.

Organizers said two buses will take Flint residents to Detroit on Friday. The buses leave at 5:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. The performance will be followed by the talkback and food.
